Whitney
A driven straight A student athlete, fitness has always been a large part of Whitney’s life. Swimming being the main, naturally her first job from age 15-18 was coaching swim team + teaching individual lessons to children + adults.
However, growing up in a muscular body that never fit the narrow standard around her, Whitney spent years battling teasing, insecurity + an unhealthy relationship with food + exercise. She was pushed relentlessly into endurance sports—year-round competitive swimming, soccer, distance running—developing discipline early, but also chronic pain, inflammation + burnout. It took years to realize her muscular physiology was never built for endless endurance, but instead for strength, speed + power.
After more than a decade chasing an unrealistic ideal through starvation + excessive cardio, her turning point came unexpectedly. Too sore to run one day at the University of Virginia’s AFC, she wandered into the dumbbell area + began experimenting with strength training. For the first time, movement felt empowering instead of punishing. Whitney stopped chasing skinny + started chasing strong. As inflammation subsided, her body toned + tightened, pain decreased + confidence grew—revealing what endurance training never had: her body thrived under resistance, precision + recovery.
Inspired + determined, Whitney immersed herself in studying the human body, earning certifications in biomechanics, strength training, corrective exercise, classical Pilates + nutrition science. In 2004, while working a demanding marketing career in Washington DC, she began training clients on either side of her 9-to-5. Helping people relieve pain, transform their bodies + rebuild confidence proved far more fulfilling than any corporate milestone. Armed with an MBA in Marketing + Entrepreneurship, she left the corporate world to build a client-first training studio rooted in precision, education + sustainable results—naming it after the two things that saved her: Fitness + Fuel.
Over time, Whitney grew tired of the long, cold winters of the DC area + felt increasingly disconnected from an environment that kept movement confined indoors. Craving warmth, sunlight + an active outdoor lifestyle, she made the decision to trade heavy coats + concrete for the beaches of Los Angeles in 2009. The city’s year-round outdoor training culture, athletic energy, + emphasis on movement as lifestyle—not punishment—aligned seamlessly with her personality, values + coaching philosophy.
For years, Whitney hid her history with body dysmorphia out of shame. However, years into training clients, she recognized how widespread disordered eating + destructive fitness habits truly are. By leading with honesty, education + empathy, she’s helped many struggling clients replace self-sabotaging behaviors with kinesiology-based, results-driven training strategies —unlocking faster progress, maintainable results + a healthier relationship with food, exercise + their bodies.
Whitney founded Fitness + Fuel in direct opposition to the corporate gym model, where trainers are pressured to prioritize flashy, unhelpful or even unsafe exercises over client safety + real progress. Her vision was a private, intentional space built around progressive programming + client-first coaching: client-selected music, ample floor space, no gawking crowds, no waiting for equipment + no intimidation—just focused, expert-led training tailored to the individual.
A lifelong athlete, Whitney now 45 channels her power-based physiology into competitive 2s beach volleyball, snowboarding + skiing. Her own setbacks—including ACL, meniscus, rotator cuff + hip surgeries—deepened her first-hand expertise in corrective exercise + made her uniquely empathetic + relatable to clients rebuilding after injury.
An adaptable Gemini with a Virgo Rising’s perfectionist eye for form, Whitney is known around the beach communities for her highly personalized, technique-driven coaching style. (Ha, horoscopes are fun!) She specializes in building strength, correcting imbalances, preventing injury + aging with confidence—without judgment or guesswork. She pushes with intention, pulls back when form falters + keeps sessions challenging, safe + engaging. Plus, Papa Cole taught young Whitney to use humor to reduce stress, so don’t be surprised if she has you suddenly rolling on the floor laughing when she needs to “get you out of your own head.” Progress happens faster when people feel comfortable, understood + supported.
What Whitney values most is meeting people at pivotal moments—when they’re frustrated, discouraged or unsure what’s possible—+ helping them uncover strength they didn’t know they had. Through knowledge, structure + genuine care, she helps clients eliminate pain, doubt + self-imposed limitations to build bodies that are strong, capable + confident for the long term.
