Fitness and Fuel Co-Owner Byron Playing Soccer A passion for physical activity and sport has deeply impacted Byron’s development both as a person and a professional. If the sport existed, he played it as a youth, and following college Byron played soccer at the professional level. A love of sports and the movement of the human body led him to pursue a degree in Physical Education and Human Movement at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as a Masters in Sports Science at the Rand Afrikaans University. During college, Byron coached varsity track and field, cricket and soccer at an elite high school. He further honed skills conditioning professional athletes including the Springbok Rugby team in the Sports Science Institute at RAU. Byron spent the summer of 2002 traveling the US, coaching at a youth camp in NYC, and he fell in love with this country. He returned to South Africa to work as a personal trainer and conditioning specialist an elite health club in Johannesburg. In August 2005, Byron was recruited to be the Sports Performance Director at Velocity Sports Performance in West Los Angeles where he oversaw the setup and layout of the facility, and the design of the training programs. He worked with both elite high school and professional athletes on a daily basis. Byron expanded his clientele to include highly successful businessmen and women, as well as adult athletes. In 2011, Byron formed a partnership with his wife, Whitney Cole, resulting in FITNESS + FUEL.
