It’s been a year. A tough one. But, I finally fe It’s been a year. A tough one. But, I finally feel like I’ve processed your passing. You were the most spectacularly radiant + loving creature to every grace this 🌎. As much as it hurt to let you go, I realize how incredulously lucky 🍀 we are that you chose us. Rather than wallowing in tears, I can now focus on the infinite memories we shared over ten amazing years you dazzled us with, Mr Mojo! 

Again, I’m beyond grateful that we were able to end your pain. No living creature should have to suffer. Thank you for letting us know exactly when you were ready. Thanks to @accessanimalhospitals for making his last moments comfortable + pain free. Thank you to Hearts + Halos for the aquamation, a cremation alternative yielding ashes that are pro-plants vs toxic to plant life. What a beautiful way to remember him!

We added planters to our 2nd floor balcony plumped with the rainbow 🌈 of succulents, lavender + assorted desert plants our California boy couldn’t resist shoving his furry red beak into 24/7. This rainbow of life is visible just outside our kitchen window where you know we foodies spend a lot of time. Whether prepping yummy meals we’d love to share with you or a sunny moment on the balcony, we think of you every day, Mojo! And yes, I enjoy our daily chats when no one’s looking, my boy!

A vital step in helping someone improve their #ver A vital step in helping someone improve their #verticaljump is to work on the actual jump mechanics. For a beach volleyball player, that’s the step close phase of the approach. A major element many people forget about is the arm swing. It’s vital to get the arms up to horizontal behind you in order to allow full transfer of momentum when they swing forwards + upwards. Tom definitely struggled with this firing sequence for a while, but with practice he’s getting much better at it. 

Can’t wait to add some resistance to this drill too so we can really improve his vertical + as a result, his hitting.

Have you met DROP SETS? 💥 

In drop sets, we perform a full set, usually the final set of an exercise, then drop the weight by approximately 20-30%, then immediately rep out as many as you can until you reach failure. 

This technique can literally be used on nearly any strength exercise, from Deadlifts to Squats to Overhead Presses or Bench Press, assasinating glutes + hamstrings to quads to shoulders + pecs respectively.

I typically use them on the final set as performed properly, they are fully taxing. 

Read between the lines: 
If you’re drop-setting every set + capable of completing 3 or more sets, you’re not lifting heavy enough to challenge yourself + truly elicit Hypertrophic  change in those muscles!

In the video, my client Becca bravely tackles a double drop set on the final set of her Hip Thrust. 

Thereafter, Becca was promptly removed from gym floor with the use of a wheel barrow 😆

🚫 Crutches 🩼🩼! 3rd Week post-ACL + Medial 🚫 Crutches 🩼🩼! 3rd Week post-ACL + Medial Meniscus Repair Surgery. Delighted to get Dr Mandelbaum’s go-ahead to ditch crutches + start Physical Therapy. Nice to get a lil freedom back + new PT exercises, but I’d be lying if I said I’m doing great. Mentally, being reminded in every instance of every day of my incredibly physically-demanding life that I’m still quite limited is excruciating. 

Thanks to my amazing PTs Alexa + Sonia at Performance Physical Therapy in Santa Monica for progressing me safely + swiftly + keeping me sane.

Still stuck in brace til Week 6. Yes, I’ll have to behave myself…

Age is just a number, don’t ever let anyone tell you you’re too old to deadlift/squat/any other compound exercise!!! Stay strong, stay mobile + stay functional for as long as you can.
